The whole Ring Road and Snæfellsnes in winter, with a 4x4, a guided ice cave tour at Vatnajökull, nine nights outside the big towns for the northern lights, and a winter route for every day.
On day 4 you meet your glacier guide at Jökulsárlón and ride by super jeep to a natural blue ice cave in Vatnajökull. You spend about an hour in and around the cave. Crampons and a helmet are provided.
Weather: Ice cave tours are sometimes cancelled for safety. If that happens, we try to move you to the next morning; if that is not possible, we refund the tour price.
All nine hotels are outside the city, most in the countryside, so on a clear night you can often see the aurora from the hotel door. The north (Mývatn and Akureyri) is often clearer than the south. We send you a short guide with dark spots near each hotel, how to read the aurora forecast and how to photograph the lights with a phone.
These have no fixed price yet. To add one, write it in the wishes box when you book. We add it and confirm the price with you before we charge anything for it.
Hotels as listed or similar. If a listed hotel is full, we book one of the same standard in the same area and tell you before we confirm.
February and March: more daylight than December and January, still dark nights for the northern lights, and the ice caves are open.
A 4x4 with winter tyres is included. Daylight is 4–6 hours in December and January. Storms can close mountain roads in the north and east for a day; check road.is and vedur.is every morning. Every day has a shorter bad-weather option, and we help you change plans if a road closes.
Yes, for confident drivers who take it slowly. You get a 4x4 with winter tyres, Road 1 is cleared daily, and each day has a shorter bad-weather option. Check road.is and vedur.is every morning. If a storm closes a road, stay put and call us: we help you rebook hotels.
Yes. A guided ice cave tour by super jeep from Jökulsárlón is included on day 8, with crampons and a helmet, from age 6. If it is cancelled for safety, we try the next morning or refund the tour price.
Nobody can promise it, but nine nights mostly in the countryside from October to April give you many chances. The north is often clearer than the south.
About 4–5 hours in December and January, 8–10 in February and October, and 12 or more in March and April. February and March are the best balance of daylight and dark nights.
Yes, as our 10-day Ring Road & Snæfellsnes, with a slower pace on the South Coast and a night near the Golden Circle.
