The Westfjords are the least visited part of Iceland, a peninsula of steep fjords, bird cliffs and small fishing towns. These tours run from Ísafjörður and other towns in the region, arranged by a local travel agency in Iceland that can match the trip to the time you have.

The Westfjords sit apart from the Ring Road, so getting there takes commitment: either a long drive, a domestic flight to Ísafjörður, or a stop on a cruise itinerary. Once there, the reward is quiet roads, dramatic scenery and far fewer other visitors than the south coast.
Ísafjörður is the main town and a good base, with Dynjandi waterfall, Látrabjarg bird cliffs and the Hornstrandir nature reserve all within reach depending on the season.
Roads here are often gravel and wind around fjords rather than cutting across them, so distances take longer than they look on a map. Many routes and some tours only run in summer.
Go between June and August for the best road access and long days. Outside summer, check which roads and services are actually open before planning a trip.
By car via the Ring Road and West Iceland (a long drive), by domestic flight to Ísafjörður, or as a stop if you are on a cruise that calls there.
Some tours include boat trips or hikes to Hornstrandir, but it is a remote nature reserve with no roads, so access is usually by boat and only in summer.
If you only have a week in Iceland, the Westfjords are hard to fit in alongside the south coast and Golden Circle. They suit a longer trip or a dedicated visit.
Puffins and other seabirds nest at Látrabjarg from around May to August, so that is the best window to see them.
Some do, based from Ísafjörður, but many roads and attractions are only accessible in summer, so check with your travel agency before booking a winter trip.
