About the Ísafjörður biking tour

Ísafjörður is the main town of the Westfjords, tucked under steep mountains at the end of a narrow spit of land. This tour rides out of town and up onto the hillside, past the avalanche barriers built to protect the town, then down into the forested Tungudalur valley.

The route covers about 10 to 15 km on a mix of gravel roads and singletrack, following the Buná river through the valley before climbing back for views across the fjord. The pace and route can flex to the group's ability, and the guide points out local history along the way.

This is an easier ride than it sounds: the terrain is manageable for most people with basic fitness, and the guide adjusts pace and route on the day. As with anywhere in the Westfjords, bring a rain jacket, since weather can change quickly.
