Dynjandi is the largest waterfall in the Westfjords. Rather than one narrow drop, it spreads out like a bridal veil as it falls about 100 metres down the mountainside above Arnarfjörður, about 30 metres wide at the top and 60 at the base. Six smaller named waterfalls step down the slope below it, so the walk up passes seven in all.

About the Dynjandi waterfall shore excursion

Dynjandi is the best-known waterfall in the Westfjords, a series of cascades fanning out down a hillside above the Dýrafjörður–Arnarfjörður coastline. Its name means thunderous, or resounding, and it earns it: the water spreads from around 30 metres wide at the top to about 60 metres at the base.

This excursion is built around your ship's call at Ísafjörður. After a scenic drive through the fjords you walk up to the waterfall, about 15 minutes from the car park, then stop at Gemlufell, a working farm on the Dýrafjörður coast, for tea or coffee and a slice of traditional Icelandic cake, with a chance to meet the farm animals.

It is an easy tour with no technical walking, though the path up to Dynjandi has some incline. Weather in the Westfjords can change fast, so bring proper layers even if it looks calm at the port.

Small group and stunning waterfall!

We had a blast on this tour to see the most beautiful waterfall Dynjandi. The waterfall is huge and simply stunning!
The tour guide was great, lived in the area and told us many great stories from the area. We were only 9 in our group and the tour was very personal.
