About the dog sledding Myvatn

This tour runs at Vallholt farm, between Akureyri and Lake Mývatn in North Iceland. You start at the kennel, where a musher introduces you to the huskies and explains how the dogs are trained and cared for, before a safety briefing for the ride itself.

The sled ride covers a few kilometres over snow, with 6 to 10 dogs pulling groups of 2 to 4 people, and there are stops along the way for photos. Your musher can let you help steer the sled for part of the ride if you would like to, under supervision.

This is a winter tour and depends on there being enough snow or ice on the trail, so it runs on a shorter season than some other North Iceland activities. Warm overalls, boots, hat and gloves are provided, since you are out in the cold for the full visit.
