About Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon sits in a black lava field near Grindavík, on the Reykjanes Peninsula, about 45 minutes from Reykjavík and 20 minutes from Keflavík Airport. Its milky-blue water is geothermal seawater from the Svartsengi power plant next door, rich in silica and minerals, and stays around 37 to 40°C all year.

It's Iceland's best-known lagoon and one of the country's most-visited sites, so entry runs on booked time slots rather than turning up on the day. The silica is good for skin but hard on hair, so use the conditioner provided in the changing rooms and tie long hair up before you go in.

The Reykjanes Peninsula has had several volcanic eruptions near Grindavík since 2023, and the Blue Lagoon has closed for short periods as a precaution when activity picks up nearby. It can still close at short notice. If that happens on your booking, we'll let you know as soon as we do and help you rebook.

Blue Lagoon FAQ

What's the difference between Comfort and Premium?

Premium adds an algae mask and a bathrobe on top of Comfort's silica mud mask, towel and one drink.

Is transfer included?

Yes, on all three packages we sell: either a return trip from Reykjavík or a transfer from Keflavík Airport to the lagoon and on to Reykjavík.

Is the Blue Lagoon currently open?

It generally is, but it has closed for short periods during nearby volcanic activity since 2023. If your booking is affected, we'll let you know and help you rebook.

Can children come?

Yes, from age 2. Children aged 2–8 wear armbands, and under-16s need to be with an adult.

What are Signature and Retreat Spa?

Signature is the top standard admission tier, with an extra drink and skincare products to take home. Retreat Spa is a separate, private five-hour experience with its own lagoon and changing rooms. We can arrange either on request.

Do I need to bring my own towel?

No, a towel is included with every package on this page.

What is the cheapest Blue Lagoon package?

The Comfort package with return transfer from Reykjavík, from 23,999 ISK per person. It includes admission, a silica mud mask, a towel, one drink and the bus.

Can I go to the Blue Lagoon straight from the airport?

Yes. Our Keflavík Airport packages take you from the airport to the lagoon and then on to Reykjavík, from 24,999 ISK.

How long should I stay at the Blue Lagoon?

Most guests spend about 2–3 hours in the lagoon, plus time to shower and change.

Is it better to book a package or just a ticket?

If you don't have a car, a package is easiest: the transfer is timed to your entry, and everything is in one booking.

Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon or Reykjaböð: which should I choose?

The Blue Lagoon is the famous one near the airport. Sky Lagoon is closer to Reykjavík, and Reykjaböð is a new lagoon about 35 minutes away, easy to combine with the South Coast or Golden Circle.
