Þingvellir National ParkÞingvellir National ParkÞingvellir National Park

Þingvellir is where Iceland's parliament, the Alþingi, first met in 930, and it lies in a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian plates are pulling apart. Chieftains gathered here every summer, laws were recited from the Lögberg (Law Rock), and the plain below still shows where the assembly booths stood. The lake beside it, Þingvallavatn, is the largest natural lake in Iceland. The park is free to enter and open all year. You walk through the Almannagjá rift, on the edge of the North American plate.

3GeysirGeysirHot springs erupting up to about 20 metres.
GeysirGeysirGeysir

Geysir gave every geyser in the world its name. The original Great Geysir now erupts only rarely, sometimes after earthquakes, so the show is Strokkur, a short walk away. It throws boiling water 15 to 20 metres into the air every 5 to 10 minutes, and sometimes a good deal higher, so you will see several eruptions while you are here. Keep to the paths between the pools and stay behind the ropes, as the water is very hot.

Gullfoss waterfallGullfossGullfoss

Gullfoss, the Golden Falls, drops about 32 metres in two steps into a narrow canyon roughly 70 metres deep and 2.5 kilometres long. The water comes from the Hvítá river, which is fed by the glacier Langjökull. Glacial water often turns golden-brown in sunlight, and rainbows hang in the spray on bright days. A path with stairs leads down to a lower level, closer to the water.

Bather in the Blue LagoonBlue LagoonBlue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is a milky-blue geothermal spa on the Reykjanes peninsula. The water is geothermal seawater from the nearby Svartsengi power plant, rich in silica and minerals, and it stays at 37 to 40°C all year, whatever the weather outside. The silica gives the water its blue-white colour and a slightly cloudy, mineral feel. The lagoon holds about nine million litres, renewed roughly every 40 hours. Bring your swimsuit; a towel and admission are arranged as part of the day.

About the Golden Circle Blue Lagoon private tour

This is a full day out combining the Golden Circle with a visit to the Blue Lagoon, run as a private tour so it is just your group with your own guide and vehicle. Instead of following a set bus schedule, your guide builds the day around you, spending more time where you want and moving on when you are ready.

The Golden Circle route takes in Þingvellir National Park, where you can walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, the geothermal area at Geysir with its erupting Strokkur, and the two-tier Gullfoss waterfall. From there the tour continues to the Blue Lagoon, where you can relax in the geothermal water before heading back.

Because the tour is private, timing is flexible: your guide can plan around winter daylight or summer crowds, and add or skip stops depending on the weather and what your group enjoys. Bring swimwear for the lagoon, and warm, waterproof layers for the Golden Circle stops, since conditions can change through the day.

Coolest Bath Ever After a Full Iceland Day

After walking around geysers and seeing those waterfalls, getting into Blue Lagoon was amazing. Private guide made us feel safe, gave good advice on layers & what to bring. He was also so nice on the day and made it feel extra special!

Traveller
Personalized private tour

The private tour meant we could linger at the spots we loved (Gullfoss mostly) and skip ones less interesting to us. The guide also recommended some hidden gems along the way! Guide was exceptional, helpful, adjusting times so we didn’t feel rushed. Blue Lagoon was peaceful and refreshing. Memorable day.

Great Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon tour

Amazing day! The geysers blew me away, and Gullfoss was powerful. Then Blue Lagoon to wind down. Could not think of a better guide.

Great from start to finish

Can’t think of a better tour in one day. Waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, then that warm soak in turquoise water at Blue Lagoon. Had been on our bucket list for a long time. Peter our private guide was outstanding—good with timing, safety, delivery of history and geology. Felt luxurious without being over the top.

Traveller
Family friendly & great guide

We did this tour with our two kids, ages 7 and 10. Petur our guide was amazing—super patient, always making sure the kids were okay. The Golden Circle was fun for everyone, and Blue Lagoon at the end was like a treat. Our family loved this.

Magnifique
