Ísafjörður is the largest town in the Westfjords, a remote corner of Iceland with steep flat-topped mountains, deep fjords and very few people. Ships dock or tender into the small harbour on a sand spit in the middle of the fjord, right next to the old town. A day here is all about wild nature: the Dynjandi waterfall, quiet fishing villages, birdlife and the sea.

Smaller and mid-size ships usually dock in the harbour next to town; the largest ships may anchor in the fjord and bring passengers ashore by tender.
About 1 hour 30 minutes each way, so allow at least 5 hours for the trip.
In summer, boat trips to Vigur island often see puffins, usually from about May to August.
Yes, the old town is right by the harbour.
