Grundarfjörður is a small fishing town on the north side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, best known for Kirkjufell, Iceland's most photographed mountain, which stands just outside town. Ships anchor in the fjord or dock at the harbour. From here the whole Snæfellsnes peninsula, often called "Iceland in miniature", is within reach: the Snæfellsjökull glacier, black beaches, lava fields and sea cliffs.

Yes, a full-day excursion can circle the peninsula and the national park.
