About the Kirkjufell kayaking tour

Kirkjufell, the pointed mountain on the edge of Grundarfjörður, is one of the most photographed spots in Iceland, and this tour lets you see it from the water rather than the usual roadside viewpoint. The base is a short walk from the harbour, in a white building.

After gearing up in a dry suit and undersuit and a safety briefing, you paddle out along the shoreline toward Seal Skerry, an area known for seals and seabirds, then continue along the base of the mountain before turning back. The whole trip is around two hours, with about 70 minutes actually spent on the water.

No kayaking experience is needed; guides keep the pace suitable for the group and the water here is generally calm. The dry suit keeps you warm and dry, but bring a hat and extra socks if you feel the cold easily, since Iceland's weather can turn cool even in summer.
