Þingvellir is where Iceland's parliament, the Alþingi, first met in 930, and it lies in a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian plates are pulling apart. Chieftains gathered here every summer, laws were recited from the Lögberg (Law Rock), and the plain below still shows where the assembly booths stood. The lake beside it, Þingvallavatn, is the largest natural lake in Iceland. The park is free to enter and open all year. You walk through Almannagjá, a rift at the edge of the North American plate.

GeysirGeysirGeysir

Geysir gave every geyser in the world its name. The original Great Geysir now erupts only rarely, sometimes after earthquakes, so the show is Strokkur, a short walk away. It throws boiling water 15 to 20 metres into the air every 5 to 10 minutes, and sometimes a good deal higher, so you will see several eruptions while you are here. Keep to the paths between the pools and stay behind the ropes, as the water is very hot.

Gullfoss, the Golden Falls, drops about 32 metres in two steps into a narrow canyon roughly 70 metres deep and 2.5 kilometres long. The water comes from the Hvítá river, which is fed by the glacier Langjökull. Glacial water often turns golden-brown in sunlight, and rainbows hang in the spray on bright days. A path with stairs leads down to a lower level, closer to the water.

Laugarás Lagoon is a geothermal spa on the banks of the glacial Hvítá river, near the Iðubrú bridge, on the Golden Circle route. It opened in 2025. The warm pools, at about 38 to 40°C, use natural hot spring water, there is a cold plunge beside them, and the restaurant, Ylja, serves food made with produce from nearby geothermally heated greenhouses. Towel and a drink are included on the Lerki tier.

About the Golden Circle and Laugarás Lagoon tour

This tour covers the Golden Circle, Iceland's best-known day trip route, then ends with time at Laugarás Lagoon, a geothermal spa that opened in 2025. You travel in a small group rather than a big coach, with pick-up from central Reykjavík.

The day starts at Þingvellir National Park, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart and Iceland's parliament first met in 930. From there you head to Geysir, where Strokkur erupts every few minutes, and on to Gullfoss, where the Hvítá river drops about 32 m in two steps.

Laugarás Lagoon sits nearby in the Golden Circle area. It has a central lagoon at around 37°C, a cold plunge pool, two saunas and a waterfall bath, with a swim-up bar and dining area. This tour includes the Lerki ticket, which comes with a towel and a free drink.

In winter the days are short and roads can be icy, so the order of stops may change for weather. In summer the sights are busiest in the middle of the day, and the lagoon is a relaxed way to end things before the drive back to Reykjavík.

Perfect mix

If you want a taste of everything Iceland offers, this is your tour. Dramatic waterfalls, bubbling geysers, serene Lagoon — the contrast is awesome. The facilities at Laugarás were clean and comfortable. The towel & free drink included made things feel luxurious. Great value, excellent experience.

Traveller
Excellent guide + lovely lagoon

Our guide was fabulous—lots of stories, history, geology, all delivered with humor. Seeing Strokkur erupt is something else! Laugaras Lagoon was lovely, very peaceful, and definitely worth ending the day there. If I had one suggestion: better signage / clearer instructions at the lagoon entrance, but that’s small.

Traveller
Family-friendly and unforgettable

We brought our two kids (ages 9 & 11) on this tour, and it worked out great. The minimum age of 8 made it possible. The children were engaged at Þingvellir and Geysir, and the lagoon was a big hit—especially the cold plunge and the swim-up bar (they loved the drinks!). A long day, but full of memories.

Traveller
So much more than just sightseeing

This tour delivers both the iconic Golden Circle sights and true relaxation. After marveling at the landscapes and geysers, ending the day at Laugarás Lagoon felt like the reward. Staff were attentive, the water was perfect temperature, and the lagoon’s features (saunas, cold plunge, waterfall feature) made it feel special.

Traveller
Beautiful Golden Circle + a soothing end

Everything about this tour was well planned. The guide was friendly and informative (loved learning about Icelandic geology at Tingvellir). Gullfoss was stunning, though a little crowded. Laugaras Lagoon was the highlight: soaking in warm water, the cold plunge helped, and the drink at the swim-up bar was fun. Only slight issue was timing—felt like we could have had a few more minutes at Geysir. Still, a wonderful day.

Traveller
Tranquil day with Iceland’s highlights

From start to finish this tour was perfect. We walked between continents at Þingvellir, felt the power of Gullfoss, and watched Strokkur erupt—then drifted into relaxation at Laugarás Lagoon. The new lagoon was serene, the saunas relaxing, and the complimentary drink was a nice touch. Highly recommend for anyone wanting famous sights + a break in geothermal spa comfort.
