Talk to a local

A country hotel on its own beside the black church at Búðir, between a lava field, a pale sand beach and Snæfellsjökull glacier. It is known across Iceland for its restaurant and suits couples, food lovers and anyone touring the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
Búðir, south coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, West IcelandHótel Búðir is easy to find, because there is almost nothing else at Búðir: the hotel, the small black church and a lava field running down to the sea. It stands on the south coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland, 178 km from Reykjavík, with Snæfellsjökull glacier at the end of the view.
There has been a hotel here since 1948, and it has long been a favourite with Icelanders; the writer Halldór Laxness was a regular guest. The original building burned down in 2001. The present hotel was built in its place and has been fully open since June 2003, and a newer wing has since been added.
The house is furnished like a comfortable country home, with a lounge and a bar that looks towards the beach and the mountains. Most rooms look out on at least one of the things people come for: the glacier, the lava field, the shore or the church.
The restaurant is the other reason to stay. It is one of the best-known hotel kitchens in the Icelandic countryside and cooks mainly lamb and fresh fish from the region.
As a local travel agency in Iceland, we can book a night or two here as part of a Snæfellsnes trip. Use the Ask us to book it button and we will check rooms for your dates.
Rooms are split between the older wing and a newer wing, and range from small attic rooms to a master suite. All have a private bathroom. Views differ from room to room, so tell us if the glacier, the sea or the church matters most to you and we will ask for it.
The restaurant at Hótel Búðir serves Icelandic food made with ingredients from Snæfellsnes and the farms around it. Lamb and fresh fish take the leading roles, followed by desserts that are worth leaving room for. There is an à la carte dinner menu, a lunch menu and a children's menu. The dining room looks towards the glacier, which makes for a slow, quiet evening after a day of sightseeing.
Breakfast is served until 10:00, lunch from 12:00 to 16:00 and dinner from 18:00 to 21:00. The bar and lounge are open from 11:00 to 23:00 and face the beach and the mountains. Hours can change with the season. Dinner tables are in demand, also with people who are not staying at the hotel, so reserve when you book your room.
According to the hotel's booking terms, breakfast is not included in the room price, so check what your rate covers. We confirm this for you when we book.
Most sights on the south side of Snæfellsnes are within 30 to 35 minutes of the hotel. These are the things to do in the area that we suggest first.
