A private lodge with ten bedrooms for up to 19 guests, in the countryside in the middle of the Golden Circle, a little over an hour from Reykjavík. You rent the whole house, which makes it a good fit for extended families, groups of friends, company retreats and small weddings.
Near Lake Úlfljótsvatn, Golden Circle, South IcelandÚlfljótsskáli is one of the houses run by Iceland Luxury Lodges, a small family company that also has the lodges Álftavík and Áslundur and the Art Collectors Apartment. This is their large one. It stands in open country in the Grímsnes and Grafningur district, near Lake Úlfljótsvatn, with the main Golden Circle sights spread out around it.
The lodge is rented as a whole, so you share it only with your own group. That is the point of the place. You get ten bedrooms, a big open room with a bar, a long dining table and a living area with a fireplace, plus a game room, a gym, a sauna and a relaxation lounge. Outside there is a large hot tub and a firepit.
It is set up for groups who want to spend time together in the evenings rather than disappear into separate hotel rooms. Children have space to play, there is a TV lounge for a quiet hour, and on a clear winter night you can watch for northern lights from the hot tub.
The lodge also works for a small wedding, a milestone birthday or a company gathering. The owners can help arrange extras such as catering, cleaning during your stay and transfers; tell us what you need and we ask on your behalf.

The lodge has ten bedrooms and sleeps 19 guests at full occupancy. There are nine full bathrooms and one half bathroom. Five of the full bathrooms are en suite and the rest are shared. Bed linen, towels and basic toiletries are provided. Ask us for the current bed layout if your group needs a particular mix of doubles, twins and singles.
There is no restaurant, because the lodge is a private house. You have a kitchen, the bar and the large dining room to yourselves. Many groups cook together or bring shopping from Selfoss, which is the nearest town with large supermarkets and a state wine shop.
If you would rather not cook, a private chef or catering can usually be arranged for some or all evenings, and the house can be stocked with food and drink before you arrive. These services cost extra and need to be requested well ahead, so mention them when you ask us to book.
The lodge is in the middle of the Golden Circle, so most of the well-known sights are within about an hour. Here is what to do in the area.
