About the snowmobile and ice cave tour

This tour pairs a snowmobile ride with a visit to a natural ice cave inside Langjökull glacier. After pick-up (or meeting the group on the Golden Circle), you travel by super jeep across the highland tracks to base camp, where you get fitted with snowmobile gear and a safety briefing before heading out.

The snowmobile ride itself takes around an hour, climbing to roughly 1,450 metres on the glacier. Snowmobiles are usually shared two to a machine, with one person driving, though a solo rider upgrade is normally available for an extra cost. At the ice cave you spend a short while inside, walking through ice formations carved naturally into the glacier.

This only runs in winter, roughly November to April, when the ice cave and snow conditions allow it. It's a full day out with a fair amount of driving on rough roads, so it suits people comfortable with a bit of physical activity in the cold, but you don't need any prior experience to drive a snowmobile.

Great time

We had a great time on this tour. The snowmobile ride was a lot of fun and the ice cave was beautiful even though it was a bit smaller than I had thought. It is similar to the photos on the website, blue and beautiful.
