About the Langjökull snowmobile tour

Langjökull is Iceland's second largest ice cap, and this tour meets at Gullfoss rather than in Reykjavík, so it works well tacked onto a Golden Circle day. From there a monster truck takes you up onto the highlands and glacier edge, where the snowmobiles are based.

After a safety briefing and fitting your gear, you set off on a two-person snowmobile: one person drives, one rides as a passenger. Only the driver needs a valid driving licence, so passengers of any driving age can come along. The ride covers a good stretch of the glacier, with stops for photos.

Conditions on the glacier can change fast, so guides adjust the route for weather and visibility, and tours can be delayed if it's unsafe. Dress warmly under the overalls, since it's colder and windier up on the ice than down at Gullfoss.
