About the Into the Glacier snowmobile tour

This tour adds a snowmobile ride to the Into the Glacier experience. From the base camp near Húsafell you ride snowmobiles up onto Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier, before parking up to walk through the world's longest man-made ice tunnel, dug deep into the glacier's ice.

The glacier portion, including the snowmobile ride and the tunnel, runs about 3.5 hours, and the whole day from Reykjavík and back is closer to 9 hours once you include the drive. Anyone driving a snowmobile needs a valid driver's licence; children from around 8 years old can ride as a passenger behind a licensed driver, and non-drivers can ride double with someone who holds a licence.

All snowmobile clothing is provided over your own warm layers, so you do not need your own snow gear. Because you are outdoors on the ice for part of the day, weather can affect the ride, and your guide will brief you on conditions before you set off.
