Seyðisfjörður is reached by a mountain road that winds down into the fjord, with views over the water and surrounding peaks on the way in. The town itself is known for its colourful timber buildings, several dating back over a century.
It is also the arrival point for the Norröna ferry from Denmark and the Faroe Islands, which makes it a starting or finishing point for some Iceland trips as well as a stop on the Ring Road.
Waterfalls, hiking trails and small galleries make it a pleasant place to slow down for a few hours, and it is often paired with Egilsstaðir or other East Iceland stops on a tour.
The mountain pass into Seyðisfjörður can close in winter storms, so check conditions if you are visiting outside summer.
