A RIB boat safari timed to your cruise call in Seyðisfjörður, heading out along the East Iceland coast to look for puffins and other seabirds.
This shore excursion for cruise passengers takes you from Seyðisfjörður over the Fjarðarheiði mountain pass to Borgarfjörður eystri, a small village known as the Puffin Capital of East Iceland. The drive takes about 1.5 hours each way, with your driver-guide sharing the history of the Eastfjords.
At the harbour you are fitted with a windproof flotation suit, life jacket and ski goggles for a 1-hour RIB (rigid inflatable boat) safari on the North Atlantic, heading to the base of the sea cliffs. The trip also includes a walk at the puffin colony and a seated lunch in the village before the drive back. Puffins are here from early May to mid-August; sightings depend on the birds and the weather on the day.
Groups are usually 4 to 12 people and the whole trip takes about 5.5 hours, finishing back at the cruise ship terminal.
Not guaranteed. They're commonly seen along this coast in summer, but sightings depend on the day.
