This Seyðisfjörður coast jeep tour follows the fjord's shoreline off the main road, past waterfalls and abandoned farms, with a small chance of seeing seals, dolphins or whales out on the water.
Seyðisfjörður sits at the head of a long, narrow fjord ringed by steep mountains, and this jeep tour is a quick way to see more of that coastline than you can on foot in a short call or day. The jeep leaves the town and follows the shoreline over grassy and rocky ground, crossing rivers and passing old farms that were abandoned as the district's population shrank.
A highlight along the route is Vestdalsfossar, a set of waterfalls falling toward the fjord. Depending on the day, your guide keeps an eye out for wildlife on the water, including seals and, less often, dolphins or humpback whales, though these are not guaranteed.
The tour runs from May to September and is kept to a small group, usually no more than six guests, in one jeep. It is an easy tour with no walking beyond short stops for photos, so it suits most ages, though the ride itself is bumpier than a normal road tour given the off-road terrain.
As with anywhere on the East coast, weather can shift quickly, so bring a warm, waterproof layer even on a clear morning.
Seals are seen fairly often along this coast, and dolphins or humpback whales occasionally, but sightings are never guaranteed.
It is an easy tour with no hiking, but the jeep drives off-road over grass, gravel and river crossings, so expect a bumpier ride than on paved roads.
