About the East Iceland shore excursion from Djúpivogur

This tour leaves straight from the ship at Djúpivogur and heads inland into Fossárdalur and Breiðdalur, two quiet valleys in the East Fjords. It is a drive-and-look tour rather than a hike: your guide takes you to viewpoints and short stops rather than long walks.

Along the way you pass several waterfalls, including Nykurhylsfoss and the smaller Beljandi and Flögufoss, plus an old abandoned farmstead. The road includes a shallow river ford, which is normal for this route and part of what makes it feel remote.

The tour finishes along the coast, through the fishing village of Breiðdalsvík and the black sand shoreline at Meleyri, before returning to the ship. It runs from May to October, in step with the cruise season at Djúpivogur.
