About the Northern Lights photo tour

Seeing the Northern Lights is one thing; getting a good photo of them is another. On this small-group tour the guide chooses where to go based on the cloud cover and aurora forecasts, then helps you with your camera or phone settings once you are out of the city. They also take photos of the group under the lights, which you get for free after the tour.

The tour lasts about 4 hours, but it can run longer or shorter depending on the weather and where the clear skies are. Most of the time is spent outside in the dark and cold, waiting and watching, so dress much warmer than you think you need. Hot chocolate and refreshments help.

The aurora is a natural event and nobody can promise it. If you do not see the lights, you can join a retry tour for free (the retry runs as a larger coach tour). The season runs from late August to April, when the nights are dark enough; clear skies are the hardest part in Iceland.

Questions people ask

What if we do not see the Northern Lights?

You can join a retry tour for free. The retry runs as a coach tour, not a small-group tour. Refunds are not given for tours where the lights do not show.

Do I need a good camera?

No. Your guide takes photos of you and sends them after the tour, and can help you set up a phone for night shots too.

How cold does it get?

It can feel very cold standing still at night, especially with wind. Wear more layers than you think you need.

What if the tour is cancelled?

If the operator cancels because of poor conditions, you can move to another night or get a full refund.

Excellent tour and a great guide!

The Northern Lights Photography tour was absolutely breathtaking! Got to capture the dancing lights in the sky with expert guidance on photography settings. The guide was knowledgeable and patient, helping everyone get great shots. It was a chilly night but totally worth it for the stunning auroras. If you love photography and want to capture the magic of the Northern Lights, this tour is a fantastic choice.
