About the Northern Lights small group tour

This tour runs from September to April, when the nights are dark enough to see the Northern Lights, with the best odds usually from October to March. It uses a small minibus rather than a big coach, so the group is smaller and your guide can be more flexible about where to go.

After pick-up in Reykjavík, your guide checks real-time aurora and cloud cover forecasts and drives to wherever looks most promising that night, often out past the city lights toward open countryside, mountains or the coast. Hot chocolate and a chocolate bar are included to keep you warm while you wait, and your guide takes photos of the group with the aurora if it appears, which are yours to keep.

The Northern Lights are natural and never guaranteed, so if nothing is visible on your night, you can join another tour on the next available date at no extra cost. Dress warmly, since you'll be standing outside for stretches of time, and note that the tour can run late, so it may not suit very young children who need an early bedtime.

Beautiful northern lights

Beautiful northern lights on our tour - me and my family absolutely loved our trip to Iceland and we got the help from Heida to plan everything. Did this tour on our first night and saw magical northern lights show.

Great Northern Light tour on our last night in Reykjavik

We had a great time on this northern light tour on our last night in Iceland. We went on the 8 day tour also bought on this website and then we had one day in Reykjavik at the end. During the day we went on the food walk tour that was also really great and, in the evening, we went on this small group northern light tour. We really loved that it was operated in small groups and the northern light guide was very nice and told us a lot of interesting stories about Iceland.
I will tell my friends who are coming for a weekend in January to go on this tour as well.
