Mjóifjörður, the Narrow Fjord, is one of the most remote places you can reach by road in East Iceland. A Super Jeep takes you from Eskifjörður over the mountains and down into the fjord, past waterfalls, to a tiny village where only a few people live all year.
Mjóifjörður is a long, narrow fjord in the East Fjords, cut off from the rest of the region by high mountains. The road in is a summer road over the heath, and in winter the village is mostly reached by boat.
Few visitors make the trip, which is what makes it special: waterfalls, steep green slopes, old houses and almost no traffic. A Super Jeep with a local guide is the easiest way to see it.
Weather and road conditions decide the route on the day, and the tour may take longer or be cancelled if the mountain road is not safe.
Yes. It starts at Eskifjörður harbour. Tell us your ship when you book.
Very little. Most of the tour is by jeep, with short walks at the stops.
The mountain road into Mjóifjörður is a rough gravel road, open only in the warmer months. A Super Jeep and a local guide make it much easier.
