This horse riding and Sky Lagoon package pairs a guided ride on an Icelandic horse through lava field trails with a soak in the Sky Lagoon's oceanside pool and ritual, all from a Reykjavík pick-up.
The Icelandic horse is smaller than most riding-tour horses abroad, but sure-footed and used to the terrain, and this ride is built for people who have never ridden before as well as those who have. You choose (or are assigned, depending on availability) either a morning ride through lava fields or an afternoon route, both led by an English-speaking guide.
After the ride, the tour heads to the Sky Lagoon, where you can go through the Skjól ritual: a cold plunge, sauna with an ocean view, cold mist, body scrub and steam room, finishing with a warm soak looking out over the water. It's a good way to loosen up if you are not used to being in the saddle.
All riding gear, including helmets and waterproof outer layers, is provided, so you don't need your own equipment. Because Icelandic weather changes quickly, dress in warm layers underneath what you're given, and expect the ride itself to go ahead in most weather short of anything severe.
No. The ride suits beginners as well as more experienced riders, and guides adjust the pace to the group.
