A 6-day Iceland itinerary for winter travellers: a Northern Lights tour, the Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon, a 2-day South Coast tour with a natural ice cave and glacier hike, and a day on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
This 6-day itinerary is aimed at winter travellers who want to see several of Iceland's best-known regions without self-driving in winter conditions. It was put together by local, Iceland-based travel planners with an eye on realistic travel times and seasonal limits.
The trip opens in Reykjavík with a Northern Lights tour and a full-day Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon outing, then heads east on a guided 2-day South Coast tour that includes waterfalls, a natural ice cave, a glacier hike, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach and an overnight stay in the countryside.
Back in Reykjavík, a full day is spent on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland, taking in mountains, lava fields, fishing villages, beaches and the glacier-topped Snæfellsjökull volcano.
This is an active schedule, with four full touring days and one overnight outside Reykjavík. The Northern Lights tour runs on the first evening to leave the rest of the week flexible; if it's rescheduled or no lights are seen, a free retry is offered subject to availability.
No, only the one night during the South Coast tour is included; you book Reykjavík nights separately.
The tour can be rescheduled, and if it runs but no lights are seen, you can rejoin free of charge on another night, subject to availability.
It's a natural ice cave, visited with a qualified glacier guide as part of the glacier hike day.
No. All touring runs on a guided small-group basis with airport and tour transfers included.
