A short buggy tour into the Fljótshlíð area below Eyjafjallajökull. You drive your own two-seater buggy across gravel tracks, sand and streams, with views over the Markarfljót plains and out to the Westman Islands.
This is a shorter buggy trip out of Brú Base Camp near Hvolsvöllur, in the area between Fljótshlíð and Eyjafjallajökull. You drive yourself, two to a buggy, with a guide leading the group past waterfalls, across the Markarfljót sand plains around Dímon and through small streams, with a viewpoint looking over Seljalandsfoss and out to the Westman Islands.
The terrain is rougher than a normal drive but the buggies are built for it, with roll cages and safety belts, and everyone gets a briefing before starting. It suits people who want a taste of off-road driving without committing to a full day, and it runs all year, though conditions and the exact route can change with the weather and river levels.
You need a valid driving licence to take the wheel; passengers don't. It's not a good fit for anyone with back problems or who is pregnant, and children under 5 aren't able to take part.
No, but you do need a valid driving licence. Guides brief everyone before setting off and lead the group at a manageable pace.
Yes, only the driver of each buggy needs a driving licence.
You cross streams and can pick up spray and mud, so waterproofs and boots you don't mind getting dirty are a good idea.
No. This route stays in the area between Fljótshlíð and Eyjafjallajökull: waterfalls, the Markarfljót sand plains around Dímon, small stream crossings and a viewpoint over Seljalandsfoss and the Westman Islands. The 5-hour buggy tour goes into Þórsmörk.
