This puffin tour from Reykjavík takes you out from the old harbour on a fast RIB boat to Lundey and Akurey, two small islands where puffins nest in summer, with the engine cut for quiet, close viewing.
Lundey and Akurey, the two small islands just off Reykjavík, are home to large puffin colonies through the summer, and this tour is one of the fastest ways to get close to them. The RIB boat covers the short distance from the old harbour quickly, and the guide cuts the engine near the islands so you can watch without disturbing the birds.
Because it's an open speed boat, you're given a full warm, floatable overall along with goggles and gloves, so dress in normal clothes underneath and expect a breezy, sometimes bumpy ride out. It's a short tour, about an hour door to door, which makes it easy to combine with other things on a Reykjavík day.
This only runs in the puffin season, roughly June to August, and only one departure typically runs each day, so it's worth booking ahead if you want a specific date. Children under 10 are not permitted, and everyone needs to fit into the largest overall size, up to 3XL.
No, children under 10 are not permitted on this tour.
You're given a warm, floatable overall, goggles and gloves, so you stay dry and warm even on the open boat.
