About the lava show Reykjavik

This is not a screen or a model: the Lava Show melts real Icelandic lava rock and pours it into an arena in front of the audience, so you can watch it glow orange, crawl across the floor and slowly cool and crack. A host talks through what is happening and answers questions as it cools.

It runs in the Grandi harbour district, a short walk or an easy trip from downtown Reykjavik, with a free shuttle bus stopping at a few city-centre points through the day. The show itself is under an hour, so it fits easily around other plans.

There is also a Premium version, aimed at over-13s, that adds a drink on arrival, a VIP viewing balcony and a small piece of lava to take home. The standard show suits all ages, including families.

Unique experience in Reykjavik

Really liked the lava show for our day in Reykjavik, very unique and great activity during the day. Iceland Travel Guides and Heida helped us plan our trip to Iceland and it was amazing. This is what we did:

Day 1: Reykjavik Food Tour - great experience!
Day 2: Golden Circle, tomato farm and Sky Lagoon - our best day, were really in awe of the Icelandic nature
Day 3: South Coast tour - stunning landscapes
Day 4: Time in Reykjavik, went to Perlan Museum and the Lava show
Day 5: A trip all the way to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and the diamond beach - long day but worth it.
