Simply fantastic experience on our trip to Iceland in March 2026. Loved all the dogs and the views were great. Lovely tour from start to finish!

A dog sledding tour close to Reykjavik: meet a team of Alaskan huskies, then ride behind them on a real sled across the snow. It is easy, short and works well as a first taste of dog sledding without travelling far from the city.
This is the closest dog sledding to Reykjavik, run from Mosfellsheiði, about 35 minutes north of the city. You get time with the dogs before setting off: Alaskan huskies bred and trained for sledding, and clearly keen to run. A musher guide handles the sled and takes you through the basics before you go.
The ride itself is around 35 minutes across the snow, with a pause partway to swap places, take photos and give the dogs a break. It is graded easy and open to most fitness levels, since you are riding rather than driving the sled yourself.
This only runs when there is enough snow on the ground, so it operates roughly December to April and is weather dependent; if conditions are not right, the operator will refund or offer an alternative. Winter daylight is short, so bookings are usually earlier in the day, and it gets cold standing around with the dogs, so dress warmly.
No. A professional musher guide runs the sled; you just ride and enjoy it.
The ride then runs on a wheeled kart instead of a sled. If you want to be sure of a sled, add the sled-only option (sold December to mid-April).
No, but you can add pick-up and drop-off in Reykjavík for 14,600 ISK per person in the booking step.
Minimum age is 6, and there is a weight limit of about 95 kg (209 lb) per rider.
