About the ice cave photography tour

Most people come back from an ice cave with dark, blurry phone photos. On this tour the guide is a certified glacier guide and a professional photographer, so while you explore the cave they take photos of you. You get 2 edited photos per person, sent within 14 days, and you can buy more.

The tour starts at the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon car park. A 4x4 vehicle takes you on a rough mountain track to the edge of the glacier, about 20–30 minutes each way. From there you walk to the cave; the hiking in total is about 1–1.5 hours on flat but rocky ground, which is fine for anyone of average fitness.

Ice caves form in the glacier every winter from summer meltwater, and they change shape, size and location from year to year. The cave you visit may not look like the photos on this page. Jökulsárlón is about five hours' drive from Reykjavík, so plan to stay nearby the night before or after.

Questions people ask

Do I need my own camera?

No. Your guide takes the professional photos. Bring your phone or camera if you also want your own shots.

How many photos do I get?

2 edited photos per person are included. You can buy more after the tour.

Is it hard?

Not really. The walk is about 1–1.5 hours on flat but rocky ground, fine for anyone of average fitness.

Can I get there from Reykjavík on the day?

It is about five hours' drive each way, so it is much better to stay near Jökulsárlón or in Höfn.

Probably not exactly. Ice caves form again every winter and change shape, size and location.

Love the photos we received from this tour!

We just received our photos from the guide and wow they are amazing! I am so happy that we did this tour with a professional photographer.
We had the most amazing time on this ice cave tour. There were only 8 people in our group, and 5 of them were our family so this was a very personal experience. We were alone in the ice cave - no other groups were there at the same time and we just really enjoyed the experience.
