An ATV and kayaking tour that combines two very different South Coast experiences in one day. You ride across black volcanic sands to the Sólheimasandur plane wreck, then paddle among icebergs on a glacier lagoon.
This tour pairs an ATV ride with glacier lagoon kayaking, two of the South Coast's more active experiences. It starts at a base camp near Mýrdalsjökull, where you get kitted out and briefed for the ATV ride across the black sands at Sólheimasandur, with views of the glaciers behind you and a stop at the rusted DC-3 plane wreck.
After the ATV portion you drive yourself to the Sólheimajökull base camp for the kayaking half, where you get a drysuit and paddle before heading out onto the lagoon for about 90 minutes among floating icebergs. ATVs are shared in pairs, so solo travellers or odd-numbered groups may pay extra for a single rider option.
Because it links two separate activities at two locations, this is a longer, more active day than either on its own. It only runs from June to October, and the minimum age is 14, with children aged 7 and under not permitted at all.
Yes, a valid driving licence is needed to ride.
ATVs are normally shared in pairs; a single rider option is available for an extra cost.
Yes, this tour is meet-on-location at both stops, so you need your own transport between them.
No, the kayaking is guided and suits beginners.
