About the 2 day South Coast private tour

This private tour turns the South Coast into a relaxed two-day trip instead of one very long day. Day one covers the classic stops from Reykjavík to the Jökulsárlón area, with an overnight stay near Kirkjubæjarklaustur or Skaftafell before day two continues into Vatnajökull National Park.

On day one you visit Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi, Skógafoss and Kvernufoss, the Sólheimajökull glacier area, Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara, plus a stop in Vík. An ice cave visit is included: the Katla ice cave in summer (May to September), or a crystal ice cave in winter (October to April), when the overnight stop also becomes a chance to look for the Northern Lights, weather and solar activity permitting.

Day two heads into Vatnajökull National Park and Skaftafell, then on to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach and Fjallsárlón, with a stop at Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon on the way back to Reykjavík.

Because it is private, the pace is yours: your guide can slow down, skip a stop, or spend longer somewhere depending on the weather and what your group enjoys. Pack light, since luggage is limited to one suitcase and a daypack per person for the overnight stop.

Fantastic time

Had an absolutly fantastic time on this tour with Petur. He is an exceptional guide and person in general and made our Iceland trip the best one. After we did the 2 day south coast tour with him we also decided to book him for the golden Circle since he was free the next day. loved all the landscapes but just sitting in the car chatting and looking out the window was also my favorite memory from this trip.

Everything we dreamed of!

This tour was everything we could have wished for. Petur our guide was exceptional. He helped my mither to see all the beautiful locations and waited with her at the hotel while we did the ice cave tour. It was my moms dream to visit Iceland and Petur did more than make her dream come true! Will be thankful to him forever.

Did not get auroras, still 10/10

Clouds beat us the first night, but Petur still took us out for a short walk and showed us how he reads the aurora and cloud maps. Day two’s Jokulsarlon and Diamond Beach totally made up for it—otherworldly. We finished at Fjadrargljufur with light breaking through the clouds. Worth every penny for the private pace and a guide who genuinely cares.

Professional, personable, and crowd-smart

You can tell Petur loves this coastline. He routed us to avoid the heaviest windows at Reynisfjara and Seljalandsfoss, kept a close eye on tides, and found a quiet pull-off with a view I had not seen on Instagram (rare!). Communication before and during the tour was excellent. If you want a premium experience without herding, this is it.

Great with my 70-year-old dad

This was a multigenerational trip and Petur set the perfect pace—shorter walks at Skaftafell, easy viewpoints at Fjadrargljufur, no pressure. He even had spare walking poles. We learned a lot about glaciers and volcanos without it ever feeling like a lecture. Comfortable van, clean guesthouse, private bathroom. My dad has not stopped talking about Skogafoss.

highlight of our trip

July trip—Katla Ice Cave was the showstopper. Petur explained the black ash layers and safety basics in a calm, clear way. We also saw puffins at Dyrholaey (he knew exactly where to look). When rain moved in, he shuffled the order so we landed Skogafoss in a sunny gap. That kind of local intuition is exactly why we booked a private tour.
