About the Húsafell Canyon Baths

Húsafell Canyon Baths sits in a canyon in the highlands near Húsafell in West Iceland, reached by a short ride from the Húsafell Activity Centre followed by a guided walk. It's a smaller, more natural setup than the big spa-style baths elsewhere in Iceland, with the geothermal water sitting in a canyon rather than a built pool complex.

Once there, you have time to soak in the warm water before walking back out. It suits people who want something a bit more low-key and scenic than a large bathing complex, though that also means fewer facilities on site, so plan accordingly.

This runs with several departures a day rather than being open continuously, so it's worth checking the schedule and booking a specific time rather than just turning up.

Questions people ask

Is this a big spa like the Blue Lagoon?

No, it's a smaller, more natural hot spring in a highland canyon, with a short walk to reach it and fewer facilities on site.

Do I need to bring a swimsuit?

Yes. If you forget one, you can rent a swimsuit at the Hotel Húsafell swimming pool. A towel is included.

How far is the walk?

It's a short, guided walk after the minibus ride from the Húsafell Activity Center, suitable for most fitness levels.

Can I just turn up?

It's best to book a specific departure time, since access runs on a schedule rather than being open all day.
