About Earth Lagoon Mývatn

Earth Lagoon sits by Lake Mývatn in North Iceland, in a starker, more volcanic landscape than the lagoons closer to Reykjavík. It was known for years as Mývatn Nature Baths and has recently been renamed to Earth Lagoon, though the pools and the water are the same.

The lagoon's milky-blue water is heated by the same geothermal system that feeds the area's mud pools and steam vents, and it stays warm, around 36 to 40°C, all year. Facilities include a swim-up bar, steam bath, sauna and a bistro on site.

It's quieter than the Blue Lagoon and set up more simply, which suits travellers doing a North Iceland loop through Mývatn and Akureyri rather than a big day trip from Reykjavík. Bring a swimsuit and, ideally, your own towel unless you've booked a pass that includes one.
